9:00am Thursday 2nd September 2010

A CLOWS Top model used her “striking” eyes and personality to secure a place in the finals of a Miss Bollywood UK contest.
Twenty-one-year-old Emily Payton won over the panel of judges in interviews and photo shoots and will join 15 other girls in the finals at Birmingham’s NEC, in October.
If she wins, the aspiring actress will star in a Bollywood film, receive a modelling contract and go on to the prestigious pageant, Miss Universe.
“It’s a great opportunity,” she said. “It feels amazing. I didn’t think I would get this far because when you think of Miss Bollywood, your first reaction is that you have to be Asian.
Bollywood is so diverse. It’s not just for Asian people.”
The former Bewdley High School and Sixth Form Centre pupil said it was an achievement for her to get through, as she was the only contestant from Worcestershire.
She said: “All the other girls were from Birmingham, Leicester, or London, so it’s great that I got through.
“The judges said that one of my most striking features was my eyes, so I think I got through with my eyes and personality.
“I just went for it. I thought, ‘I’ve got as much chance as anybody else here because I’m here’. Now I’m in the final so I guess I’m just lucky.”
Emily, who models part-time on catwalks and magazines, explained that winning the title would boost her career and get her known as a model and actress.
She said: “I’m a small-town girl.
I live in a small village so it would be amazing to achieve that and experience the big wide world.”
She said that her father, Nicholas and mother, Mary, were proud that she had had reached the finals.
