MURDER MYSTERY - Methodist Church members have planned a Murder Mystery Evening this Saturday for 7.30pm . Entry is £5 and all details are available by ringing 01694 723567 or 723205.
CREATIVE WRITING - There is just time to enquire for a place in the Sacred Spaces Project of Words and Wild Places creative writing in the countryside which takes place at Rushbury and Cardington this Sunday, from 10am-4pm with Dr.
Paul Evans, writer and radio broadcaster.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - The film to be screened at Church Stretton School next Monday is Wild Target (12) British comedy film, starring Bill Nighy and Eileen Atkins. The film is billed as the Best Flicks film of the Year. Jane Eyre is the film to be shown at Hope Bowdler Village Hall next Wednesday, and How I ended this Summer can be seen at All Stretton Village Hall on Friday, February 10. All films start at 7.30pm with refreshments available in the interval.
Admission is £4 and £2 for students.
COMEDY - Next Monday, Housmans Café and Bar will host an evening of comedy. Doors open at 7pm with food served from 7.30pm-7.45pm in the form of a box of sausage and chips included in the £12 ticket price. The bar will be open and the entertainment starts at 8pm.
ENGAGING ISSUES - Engaging Issues meets again in the URC Church at 7.30pm next Tuesday, and on this occasion John Annetts will ask the question ‘Why believe in God? I don’t –- does she mind?’ The topic is then thrown open for discussion. All welcome, admission by donation.
CLUB NIGHTS - Friday nights in February are cash bingo nights at the district club with ticket sales from 7.30pm before ‘eyes down’ at 8pm.
Sunday nights are country nights with 50s, 60s and 70s music from 8.30pm - 11.30pm when admission for nonmembers is £3. For further information ring 01694 723193.
SCHOOL NEWS - Class two at St Lawrence’s Primary School have had an exciting week helping to celebrate the Chinese New Year with an invitation from Mr and Mrs Sham to their Chinese restaurant where they saw a video about the dragon and tucked into noodles with their chopsticks, and leaving with red envelopes containing chocolate money. There is a big thank you to Mr and Mrs Shan for the hospitality. The class also visited McCartney’s Estate Agents where Mr Salter was on hand to answer their questions. They were all anxious to know if anyone famous had moved into the town and what was the most expensive house the company had ever sold. Class three is learning all about African animals by researching and designing their own information sheets. The pupils will also be attending a music workshop this week.
Out and about the pupils have taken part in an athletics event and had a very successful cross country match at Bedstone College with three teams coming first and the other team taking second place. The next cross country event will be at Lucton. Pupils will also be competing in a hockey tournament at Ludlow.
BIRDS - The local ornithological society meets next Tuesday at 7.30pm to hear Leo Smith speak about conservation of threatened bird species. The meeting takes place in the Methodist Church Hall.
SMALLHOLDER - The next meeting of the Shropshire Smallholders will be on Thursday, February 9, at 7.30pm in Leebotwood Village Hall when the speaker will be Jo Schup on ‘Keeping Bees on a Smallholding’. There will also be a chance to announce for sale and wanted items, to sell smallholder produce items and a seed swap table.
As usual the evening will end with a two-course meal which needs to be pre-booked before this Sunday.
The annual general meeting took place in January with a change to the constitution on the agenda. There were thanks to the three committee members who were stepping down and a welcome to the new secretary and committee members taking up their new positions.. The official business over and it was time to hear about the role of animal health officers from Simon Battson from trading standards , and Jenny Jones spoke about special courses available at Walford College .
PANTO TIMES - Cardington Capers’ presentation of Who’s Bean Stalking starts on Friday, February 10, continues on Saturday evening and with a matinee on Sunday at 3pm. Ring 01694 771515 to enquire for tickets which cost £7 and £3.50 for under 16’s. The Pantomime at All Stretton is Hansel & Gretel and will be staged Thursday to Saturday, February 23- 25.
CHARITY QUIZ - Rushbury Village Hall is the venue for a charity quiz on Friday, February 10. Ring 01588 640734 is the number to ring to book in or find out more. The charity is Supporting Farming Families.
GREEN PARTY - The South Shropshire Green Party holds its annual general meeting at Ludlow Library at 2pm on Saturday, February 11, when the speaker will be, Green Party Councillor for Stafford, Tom Harris, on the subject ‘It Doesn’t have to be this way’. All welcome.
VALENTINE DISCO - Friday, February 17, is the date of a Valentine’s Disco at the Silvester Horne Institute from 8pm.
Tickets cost £5 from Newsworld and proceeds will go to McMillan Cancer Support.
